Pancake Day: The one day in the entire year when suddenly everyone you know is a pancake masterchef.
Yours are always a either raw or burnt, and when they look perfectly cooked… they taste awful anyway! Unfortunately the Pancake Pen can’t improve your recipe, (or stand over your shoulder to make sure you put the right ingredients in – its not actually that hard) but it will help you bring our your creative side while pancake making!
The opportunities are endless – write names, draw pictures, propose to your other half, create the world’s longest pancake! Couldn’t you just do this by carefully ladelling the batter with a spoon? Well yes, you could… but it will be messy… and not anywhere near as much fun.
The Pancake Pen by Tovolo is designed to bring art into cooking – create drawings and designs instead of your usual boring, round pancakes! Not only that, but it also functions as a very handy container for your pancake mix.
The pen comprises of 3 main parts:
- The top features a screw-on lid with a rubber nipple for dispensing the pancake mix into shapes you create. An additional snap-on cover keeps the pen sealed, and the mix inside even if held upside down.
- The clear, see through mid-section with volume markings in millilitres on the side.
- At the bottom, a screw-on end piece keeps the batter in the pen. The bottom is flat so the pen can be stored vertically.
The pen holds about 850ml, which going by most recipes is about one batch. The volume markings on the side of the pen aren’t just there to show you how much pancake mix you have, but rather to help making the mix easier: add your ingredients straight to the pen and use the markings to measure them as you go on.
